Jewelry Care Guide

At Nishiyama Stoneworks, each piece is made with natural materials and thoughtful craftsmanship. With proper care, your jewelry can be enjoyed for many years to come.

General Care

Jewelry is best treated gently and worn with awareness.

  • Remove jewelry before bathing, swimming, or using hot springs
  • Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, and household cleaners
  • Store pieces separately to prevent scratching
  • Wipe gently with a soft cloth after wearing

Natural materials and metals can change over time—this is part of their character and beauty.

Gemstone Care

Each gemstone is formed by nature and may vary in hardness and structure.

  • Avoid dropping or knocking jewelry against hard surfaces
  • Some stones are more delicate and may scratch or chip
  • Keep away from prolonged moisture or sudden temperature changes

Because of their natural origin, inclusions, patterns, and slight variations are to be expected and are part of what makes each piece unique.

Softer & Natural Materials

Certain materials require extra care, including:

  • Pearls
  • Opals
  • Ammonite
  • Some forms of agate or porous stones

For these materials:

  • Avoid water and humidity when possible
  • Do not use ultrasonic cleaners
  • Store in a dry, safe place

Metal Care

We use solid materials such as silver and stainless steel.

Silver

  • May naturally tarnish over time
  • Can be gently polished with a silver cloth
  • Store in an airtight bag when not in use to help slow oxidation

Stainless Steel

  • Highly durable and resistant to tarnish
  • Can be cleaned with mild soap and water, then dried thoroughly

Wearing Your Jewelry

Jewelry is meant to be worn and enjoyed, but mindful use will help preserve it.

  • Remove before sleeping or strenuous activity
  • Avoid wearing during heavy work or impact
  • Put jewelry on last when getting ready

A Natural Process

Over time, your jewelry may develop subtle changes. These are not flaws, but part of the life of natural materials and handmade work.
