Materials & Quality

At Nishiyama Stoneworks, we focus on using materials that are made to last and meant to be worn over time. Each piece is created with care, using solid metals and natural elements that reflect both craftsmanship and a connection to the natural world.

Our Approach

We choose materials not only for their appearance, but for their durability and integrity. Our goal is to create jewelry that can be worn, enjoyed, and lived in—not something that quickly fades or wears away.

Metals We Use

Sterling Silver (925)

A timeless and widely used precious metal, sterling silver offers both strength and beauty. It may naturally tarnish over time, but can be easily maintained and restored with proper care.

Surgical Stainless Steel

Known for its durability and resistance to tarnish, surgical steel is a strong, low-maintenance material. It is suitable for everyday wear and holds up well over time.

Gold Filled

Gold filled materials contain a thick layer of gold bonded to a base metal, making them far more durable than gold plating. With proper care, gold filled pieces can maintain their appearance for many years.

Copper

Copper is a warm-toned metal that develops a natural patina over time. This gradual change is part of its character. Some people may notice slight skin discoloration when wearing copper, which is harmless and can vary depending on the individual.

Our Position on Gold Plating

We do not use gold plating. While it may look similar at first, plated jewelry can wear down relatively quickly with regular use. We choose materials that offer greater longevity and better reflect the quality we aim to create.

Natural Materials & Gemstones

We work with a variety of natural materials, each chosen for its unique character and beauty.

  • Amethyst
  • Quartz
  • Ammonite
  • Agate
  • Other natural and precious gemstones

No two stones are exactly alike. Variations in color, pattern, and inclusions are natural and are part of what makes each piece unique.

Sea Glass & Found Materials

Some collections may include sea glass or sea pottery—materials shaped naturally over time by the ocean. These pieces carry their own history and are carefully selected and incorporated into designs that highlight their natural form.

Craftsmanship

Each piece is made with attention to detail and a focus on proper technique. As a jeweler, I prioritize both structure and finish, while also creating space for learning and collaboration within our family workshop.

Transparency

The exact materials used in each piece are always listed in the individual product description. We believe in being clear about what you are wearing and how it is made.

Our Standard

We aim to create jewelry that feels honest in both material and making—pieces that reflect care, intention, and a respect for the natural elements they are made from.
